Tuesday's Shoot - Felicia
Since last week I've been on quite the roll meeting up with a handful of models for new photos. Last Wednesday, Jasey Rae showed off her plump little toes for my first shoot of 2017 (see blog: "Wednesday's Shoot - Jasey Rae") and yesterday, Melani flashed her soles for her very first time (see blog: "Monday's Shoot - Melani"). Well, today I was lucky enough to get in a set with Felicia and then follow that up with a set with Mindee. You'll read about Mindee's in a separate blog, however (see blog: "Tuesday's Shoot - Mindee"). This blog focuses on the first shoot done today with Felicia!
Felicia and I talked about this shoot since last week. We hung out after work and picked up a few Nintendo Switch consoles with a mutual friend of ours. Since the weather has been getting nicer, I mentioned that we could always squeeze in a set or two after we get off work on Tuesdays. Felicia agreed, so we made plans for today.
For the last two days, however, I was scared that this shoot might not happen. We were going to do an outdoor set, but the forecast for Tuesday seemed to change on a daily basis. A few days ago, it looked great. The day after, it was calling for storms. Yesterday morning, back to a beautiful day. During the same day, a few hours later, rain again. We just decided to go ahead and bring our stuff and see what we could get. Luckily for us, the rain happened in the early morning hours before either of us were awake. By time 5 p.m. rolled around, we were good to go! The day was beautiful, but it was about to become even more so. Felicia was about to model for me and that makes any day that much better!
After some quick stops we were on our way to a park Felicia has used for some of her own photo and art projects. I've also shot in the park as well, but it's been a number of years. It was nearby, however, so we decided to see what we could get. It turned out to be a great call for location and Felicia is totally to thank for the suggestion.
The park itself features many historic buildings. It was part of a fort ages ago and some of the buildings have seen better days. It provided us with something a little different than my normal settings. Plus, putting something as beautiful as Felicia in a setting like the one we used, just adds that much more contrast. Add in the outfit she decided to bring, and it just fit so well.
As you can see by the sample photo above, I did another set with some over the knee socks. Melani did a white pair with black stripes yesterday for her baseball set. Felicia did a yellow pair with black stripes today. With her all black outfit, shoes, and hair, it made those socks really pop! I have to hand it to her, this really worked! Other than making me feel short with those shoes, she looked great and the setting just added to everything visually!
We began this set with some full body shots up against the wall. We kept with these poses for a bit because we had three high school age boys walking around the upper level of the structure. They waited around like they had never seen a woman before, or like they were about to get a show. After a number of shots we decided to walk into a similar area a few yards away. Same structure, just different section. Here we would shoot the majority of the set.
For the most part these photos went off without a hitch. We shot mostly on the steps, stopping only when a person, or family passed by. It really wasn't bad at all as they usually just went on their way - for now, that is. More on this later.
It was really fun watching Felicia kick off her footwear - both her shoes and socks. She has quite a bit of energy to her and loves to tease. Believe me, she did just that. I'd expect nothing less from her. I loved the photo of her her offering us her shoe to sniff on the site's Instagram (@SolesofSilk). Check that out if you haven't already. Of course she smelled them afterward since she knows I like them sweaty and even somewhat smelly. Yup, that's what I deal with shooting Felicia. I know, poor Pat!
Once we were finished with our photos, it was time for us to do a short video clip. I was going to have her pull both her socks and shoes off in the clip, but that was not to be. I think everyone in town all of a sudden discovered the area where we were trying to shoot. One family. Two families. Some more high school kids. A few middle school kids. I was waiting for a parade to come by. It reminded me of the 1966 Batman movie when he was trying to get rid of the bomb. Instead, I was just trying to see Felicia's cute feet.
After about 15 minutes, we decided to go down to the waterfront area and just do the clip there. Sadly, however, the sun was going down at this point and I knew the lighting would not be favorable. Instead we walked back to my car and decided to just shoot an extra clip the next time we meet up.
Originally we thought about doing two sets today, but fell short on time. That might have worked out for the better, however, as now we can shoot again soon and not be rushed for time. Felicia is a very creative person, so it'll probably allow us to toss around some better ideas. I recommended doing a set with her playing with her Nintendo Switch for example. That'll be cute, I'm sure.
Hey, any time you're free Felicia, even for just a few hours like today, you're always welcome to shoot again and again.

Felicia was responsible for her outfit and this location - both were great choices. |
