Monday's Shoot - Kelsey
Last month Kelsey and I planned to get together to shoot a few quick sets. Our plans, however, were thrown together right before I was set to head out for a week long vacation. Long story short, we decided that it would be better to wait until I come back and not rush.
The date we decided to postpone to was today. While we had plenty of time to plan out our today's sets, sometimes life comes into play and we didn't have as much time today as we originally hoped. Still, neither one of us wanted to cancel outright. We ultimately decided that even if we got in one or two sets, it would be better than none at all.
With plans to shoot a Halloween themed set again this year, that one would be our priority. I came up with a place to shoot it, but with several lawncare workers finishing up some trimming work, we decided to come back and shoot that one second. For the first one, we'd jump back in my car and shoot a simple set just down the road.
Set 1: Blue Ball Cap
For the first set we drove to a waterfront area that we used a long time ago, back in one of Kelsey's sets published in 2009. Yeah, she's been modeling for the site for years now! Since 2006, for those keeping track. And just like wine, she's getting better with age.
In Kelsey's 2009 set we shot in front of a small lighthouse. I did toy with the idea of shooting her there again and do an ode to the old set, but ultimately decided to go out onto the boardwalk instead.
One thing you don't really see my models wear in sets are hats. Kelsey was wearing one when I picked her up and I think it looked cute on her. I've always been a sucker for a woman wearing a ball cap with a ponytail hanging out the back. The reason I never really shot models doing this is due to the shadows that fall under the brim. With this new camera, however, it picks up shadowed areas so much better than my two older cameras. I decided to have her keep the cap on here and see how it turned out. As you can see, quite well.
Set 2: Skulls
Now for the set that was the priority of today's shoot. This set was 100 percent inspired by the pair of stockings you see on Kelsey's legs in the photo above. I saw them online and bought them without much thought. I then found the skull dress and showed Kelsey. She thought it looked great, so I ordered that too. The rest of the props I grabbed at a Dollar Store, believe it or not. Cheap props are always the best props since I don't always find a need for them again in the future.
As for the location of this set, it is actually the porch of an old building turned museum. It was closed today, thankfully, so no one was around other than a few people walking out by the water. I wonder what they thought about Kelsey's cool stockings, dress, and skull props? I'm sure they saw her perched up on the porch as she stood out in her black outfit.
This resulted in so many great shots that you are going to love. The gallery will be over 100 photos too, so it's going to have a lot for Kelsey's fans to enjoy. And hopefully it will result in her gaining even more.
Kelsey and I are hoping to get together again in a couple weeks, as long as we can find some time. If so, that will rock. If not, then we will surely find some time before the end of the year. Regardless of whether we shoot again in a couple weeks or not, I want to schedule another indoor shoot with her. We did that two years ago and it resulted in so many great sets. Be sure to check out what I'm up to here and of course, on X (@SolesofSilk).
