Carmen & Her Early Morning Texts

I never expected to be getting random foot photos from Carmen late last night.

It was 1:42 a.m. and my cellphone vibrates next to my keyboard. I was playing World of Warcraft (WoW) after finishing a very long week at work. "Who was hitting me up this late?," I wondered. That's when I was treated to quite the surprise! It was Carmen... a barefoot Carmen at that!

As many of you know, Carmen played a very integral part in this site's earliest years. She was my site's first Wu's Feet Links feature model back in 2005 in her "Blue Jeans & Toes" set that helped establish Soles of Silk. It really did put the site on the map - so much so, I named it as the site's most important set of its first 15 years in the blog titled, "15 Year Celebration - 15 of the Site's Most Important Sets (2004-19)." That wasn't the last time over the last few months that Carmen's name has popped up on these blogs, however.

On January 13, 2020, I published the ninth installment of my Would Love to Shoot series where I discussed the duo of Carmen and Carlin shooting together. Be sure to give it a read as both models are ones I have always adored, with and without a camera involved.

As I always do, whenever I feature my models in one of my blogs, I send them links so they can have a look. I sent Carmen both of the above links. I didn't hear back from her right away, but that is pretty common these days. She has a lot going on and we seem to only touch base every few weeks or months. We usually exchange some words and then all goes silent for a while. It kind of sucks when I think about how much I used to chat with this friend of mine back in the early 2000's, but life changes. Let's not dwell on how much I miss this lovely gal pal though. Let's talk about these texts that were sent to me in the early morning hours.

Like I said, I was playing some WoW, on a my Demon Hunter that I named after Alice and her big feet (character's name is Elevens). I hear the vibration and begin to wonder. I give it a second so I can get out of harm's way in the game and give my phone a look. I immediately see the photo and I'm in awe. It's been so long since I've seen those tiny feet - ones that spent lots of time in front of my camera, in my hands, and even all over my nose right next to a crowded bus stop one summer downtown. Yeah, long story! Back to the photos... It took me a second, but after looking at those feet, I then noticed her shirt. It's the same shirt used in Carmen's January 2008 set that we did downtown. Downtown... the same day as the bus stop incident...

Carmen still has the shirt she wore in this set, published in 2008.

After some small talk, Carmen mentioned that she's had the shirt for 16 years and it turns out that it was a gift from none other than Carlin. The chat didn't end there though, and neither did the photos. She sent me two more shots, both showing off those tiny soles of hers, telling me that I had permission to share these with everyone. I was going to ask her if I could anyhow, so that was awesome.

I told Carmen during our chat that this was an awesome late-Valentine's Day gift. I also commended her for sending sole shots too. After all these years she still remembers that I'm a sole guy. Usually whenever I get a random foot photo sent to me from my models, it's a pedicure shot, or a shot of their feet in a new pair of shoes that like and/or want to use in a new set. Getting the sole shots from my models is a rarity. Getting the rare shot from Carmen makes these like the unicorn of random photos! No one would believe me without the proof.

I'm glad that Carmen told me to share these photos with all of you. I told her I was going to write a blog about her sending them. Speaking of which, I'm going to go ahead and wrap this up so I can send her the link. Maybe, just maybe it'll inspire her to send some more random shots one day. I know I sure won't mind. Next best thing to getting my camera pointed at them, which I still truly wish to do again one of these days.

Trivia Contest Participation Continues to Dwindle

I feel like I need to ask Mindee's Magic 8 Ball for answers.

Two days ago The Annual Soles of Silk Trivia Contest: 2019 Edition came to an end. These contests have been a tradition on the site for years now. A number of you participate in the contest each and every year, and from your accounts, you very much look forward to and enjoy taking part in them. The sad reality is, however, there has been a steady decline in the participation of the contest over the last few years. This year a total of six people sent in entries. Yes, just six.

Naturally, when I see this decline, I figure that I am doing wrong. But am I? Let's take a look at some of the things that I have thought about when trying to determine why less and less people are taking part in these annual contests.

Am I Getting the Word Out Effectively?
On the Blog: The contest page, during the time that it was contest was active, had just under 700 views. So, people are seeing it.

Social Media: I post about the contest regularly on Twitter (@SolesofSilk), with those Tweets getting their fair share of views. In years past, when Instagram still allowed pictures of bare feet to be on their platform, I used to post about it there and that account was approaching 50,000 followers. Social media doesn't seem to be a culprit.

On the Site: With this contest open to both members and non-members, there are links constantly listed at the top of the recent site updates during the entirety of the contest. Anyone coming to the site as a member or a guest can easily see and head over to the contest page. Not only is this linked in the text area, I also post banner links in both areas to draw some extra attention to the fact that the contest is underway.

Members Don't Take Part
One thing that I have definitely noticed in the past few years is the lack of members that take part in these contests. When I began doing them, I did get some member participation and many of them would be the ones winning the larger prizes. As the years went by, however, the entries were non-member heavy - probably along the lines of 80-90 percent non-member. This year it was 100 percent non-member.

Being totally honest with all of you, members have an advantage (by design) with these contests. A lot of the easier questions anyone can find the answers to. Some of the tougher questions, however, only a member could find. That was evident this year with Question #23 which asked,

Which model said this as a reply to a question in one of my 15 Year Memories interviews: "I eat up all the attention you give my feet. I should hire you for foot affections. I'll pay you well. Quit your job! Ha!"

Only a member would have been able to go through the interviews and find that it was Leah who made those comments. Since not a single member took part this year, no one answered that question correctly. It's the only question the entire field of entries missed as a whole.

Is it Too Hard?
I have struggled with this the entire time I have been running these trivia contests. I feel like if I make things too challenging, then no one will enter. I don't want to make it a cake walk either. So I try to balance the questions out and that is why I came up with the idea to have five levels of questions, with each level becoming more challenging and worth more points (1 point - 5 points). I also work multi-level questions into the multi-point tiers so I can award partial credit should someone not get the entire question correct. For example, Question 21 listed a bunch of cereals and asked you to name the five cereals that were not used during October's Cereal Killers Month event. The majority of people nailed all five cereals, but 17 percent of the field received partial credit for getting some of these correct.

When I grade the entries each year, I'm usually shocked at how well many people tend to do. This year 90 was the top score, accomplished by two different people. As I stated above, this year's entire field of entries was non-members, so two non-members were almost able to obtain a perfect score.

The more I think about it, the more I think that these aren't too hard. I think it's what I'm about to cover next...

Too Much Time/Effort?
Without going on a tirade here, I think people are becoming less and less patient and don't want to take the time to do anything these days. I see it at my job, on social media, and I think that this contest might fall under this idea.

Let's be honest, the contest looks long and daunting. It it really? Depends on how much of a fan you are, I guess. Or if you feel that the prizes are worth your time. As I see each and every year, a handful of you think so as you participate every chance you get. For others, however, I think they just can't be bothered.

Over the last few years I have tried to entice people by changing up the rewards slightly to make it more "worth their while" if they felt like it wasn't. Instead of just one or three month prizes, I added in the two month bracket. I also added in the extra month being tacked onto anyone with a perfect score.

Moving Forward
I'm not going to lie. I really enjoy creating these contests at the end of each year. It's a fun way to explore everything that happened and even draw some attention to some fun facts about the site. I know many of you love these contests and I wouldn't dream of ending them while this site is still up and running. So please, don't think that I'm going to stop doing them.

What I would like to know, however, even from those of you who send in your entries every year, what do you think I could to make this better? Does it need a format change? Is it too hard? Am I getting the word out enough or in the right places? I'm up for trying some new things and seeing some entries from new people - especially all you members who have been fans of Soles of Silk for many years.

A Major Case of Blue Balls?

Not only are Alice's big feet get dirty later on in this set when she goes out into the mud.
In 2014 I had some blue balls. Well, I've had them a lot in my life, but in 2014 I was in a store and had a shopping cart full of them. Mindee and I had the idea to do a sports themed set featuring nothing but blue balls. We figured the symbolism would be evident and the theme, funny. We were right on both accounts. What the cashier thought that day I pushed that shopping cart up to her register, a girl in her late teens, I have no idea and I don't want to know.

A year later, in 2015, I shot a set of Kaycee that was intended to be a sister set to Mindee's blue balls themed set. I hadn't yet published Mindee's set, but I had an idea. I'd shoot a similarly themed set with Kaycee, even using the same exact knee high socks that Mindee had used in her set, and then published the two sets in back-to-back weeks. The only difference in the sets was that Kaycee's set featured a bunch of multi-colored, squishy balls. I did make sure, however, to get a few blue ones so she could focus on those.

I have wanted to shoot Mindee and Kaycee's Blue Balls team up for years.

Those two sets, featured above, were a hit with so many people upon their release. That's when my mind began to race with future ideas. The one I kept coming back to, however, was doing a follow up set with the both of them together. I'd have them bring the socks back too and go to town with some more blue balls. I talked a little more in depth about this very idea in the blog, "Dream Duos #7 - Mindee & Kaycee," if you'd like to know more.

Well, those sets were published almost five years ago at this point. While I did get Mindee and Kaycee together to shoot in 2019, the first two sets were shot during the winter and the third was one summer morning before we all went off to an amusement park. That set also features Reagan and has yet to be published. Anyhow, in none of those sets did we shoot that blue balls team up finale. I know, finale with blue balls? No way! Much like blue balls, I have been left wanting... Wanting nothing more than to pair these two together and shoot that long awaited set.

Jump ahead to last week and I was looking over the 50 unpublished sets I have for the site on my computer. I was trying to figure out which set I wanted to publish with this week's update. I ultimately narrowed the model down to Alice. Which one of her sets to use was the next question I faced?

After a few minutes, I was torn between two sets. The first one featured her removing some black leather Converse shoes, naturally without socks. The second one featured her getting her feet caked in mud. I had shot both of these sets back in 2017 and that's when something in my head clicked. The set with Alice's feet in mud was shot at a ball diamond and also featured some blue balls. Then my mind clicked again immediately afterward.

Jasey Rae's 2018 feature set also incorporated blue balls.

In July of 2018, Jasey Rae did a feature set titled, "Captain of the All-Tease Cheer Squad." In that set, you guessed it, blue balls! Much like Mindee's, those balls were featured predominately throughout the set. How could I not thinking bigger picture here?

Why should I limit myself to a two model set with Mindee and Kaycee when two other of my models, Alice and Jasey Rae, have also done sets with blue balls? Maybe I was too tied to the idea of the shared socks between the first two sets featuring Mindee and Kaycee? I don't know! And in all honestly, there's a good chance Kaycee doesn't even have those socks anymore. But if I'm going to get more blue balls for another set anyhow, why not have four models be the cause? All four of which, I consider to be some really great friends who just so happen to love to tease.

A few minutes after this idea popped into my head, I sent out text messages to all four models. They all agreed with my outlook, which I figured they would. All four of them love doing shoots with other models and Jasey Rae has yet to shoot with Mindee, Kaycee, or Alice at this point in time. Alice and Kaycee haven't yet shot together either. It's going to be an all-star grouping, without a doubt!

Naturally, all four models were quite excited about the idea. They had this to say when I texted them with the proposed idea:

"We'd all look so good together," Jasey Rae said, getting back to me almost immediately. "I've always wanted to shoot with these beautiful ladies and I can't wait to make this a reality."

"I love it!" Alice said upon seeing sample shots from all four sets.

Kaycee kept it even shorter, saying, "Yes!" with a bunch of exclamation points behind it.

And you know that Mindee was going to be on board. She had this to say, "I'm super excited! I love multi-girl shoots and teasing. The idea of everyone being together in a four girl set is awesome."

They say good things do come to those who wait. Well, unless that ends up in a case of real blue balls (for most guys). But in the case of blue balls like tennis balls, soccer balls, basketballs, volleyballs, etc., it should be a lot less stressful. I guess seeing all four of those models together and barefoot, however, will probably result in the other ones too. I don't think any of them would be happy if that wasn't the end result for all who view the set.

2019 Soles of Silk Year in Review

Much like the majority of 2019, the start of 2020 has been a busy one for me with work. I began working on this blog a few weeks back, trying to keep things on pace for an early January publishing. Then I began focusing on all the end of the year blogs that I had going up to close out the year and the site's 15th Anniversary Celebration. This blog took a back seat, but better late than never, I guess!

Both Mindee's remake and Lauryn's remaster was published in January.

January
With Soles of Silk celebrating 15 years online in 2019, I got things kicked off with all kinds of celebratory items. The first of them was remakes. For each year the site was online, I'd do a remake of a set from each of those years.

The first one featured Mindee, who remade Lauryn's 2004 Waffles and Syrup set. And speaking of that set, throughout the course of the year, I published a remastered version of all eight original sets that were featured on the set the day that it launched. Lauryn's original set was among those and was also published during January.

Another notable set to make it online during the first month of the year was Kaycee's Heavy Metal set. It featured her in some of the most unique stockings I've shot for the site and the set was all around amazing. It ended up placing fourth on the blog, "My Favorite Sets of 2019."

When it came to these early months, I was still getting in a lot of camera time. Princess Nikki finally got to shoot for Soles of Silk, although it almost didn't happen due to snowy weather.

Melani also shot a couple of sets, which was supposed to be an all night shoot, but some things came up that cut the shoot short. We're still haven't been able to catch up since, but have been talking about doing so.

Finally, Mindee shot some photos, which inspired us to challenge ourselves to try to shoot at least once each month of 2019. We'd done everything else, it seemed like. "Why not?" was our thought on the idea.

All those long toes... I love them!

February
One thing that I didn't get shown in February was love... well, at least from Instagram. I had the site's Instagram account for a number of years and had never had any warnings of inappropriate content. I was well on my way to 50,000 followers and then out of nowhere, the account was gone. No warnings. And worst of all, every appeal I sent in was never answered. Come to find out, tons of foot fetish themed pages, even us much tamer ones, got the axe - no questions asked. I've even heard of people who publish pedicure photos having their accounts pulled. Guess it's okay for some celebrities to show their ass and such though. Let me get off this topic before I get pissed.

Things carried on the site nonetheless and I published my favorite remake that I did for the entirety of the 15 year celebration. That remake featured Alice and Maya together in a remake of Kelsey's and Abby's 2006 Feather Tickling set. Just look at all those long toes. How could I not love that one the most?

Mindee and I went two for two for the monthly challenge, but this time around, I had a wish come true. Mindee and Kaycee shot together for the first time and I came away with some amazing sets. Talk about a night I'll never forget. It wouldn't be the last time they were together in a set this year either.

This set showcased just how much of a brat Melani can be, and honestly, enjoys being.

March
Amazing sets came to the site during the month of March. With the March 6th update, one of the most anticipated sets finally made its way to Soles of Silk. That's when a very bratty, very teasing, Melani, dressed in a sexy schoolgirl outfit, put all you bois in your place.

The week after Melani's set, another great set with Kaycee came to the site. In celebration of St. Patrick's Day, Kaycee kicked back some Killian's Irish Red. She also pulled off some bright green thigh high socks to reveal those feet of hers that we have all come to love over the years.

Shelby first solo set was published to the site when she jumped feet first into a remake of Madison's 2007 Oreo Cookies and Milk set. I had no idea, when I shot this, that she was going to love getting her feet all messy. It really showed in this set.

Mindee and I carried on the monthly challenge, shooting a quick Easter themed set on the final day of the month. She had very little time free to even do it, but she really wanted to prevail with our challenge.

One of the more creative, albeit, unbelievable April Fool's Day announcements on Soles of Silk.

April
I've been known to do some goofy stuff for the site for April Fool's Day. Although 2019's was far fetched, it was one of the most creative goofs I've tried to pull. I announced Soles of Silk's first ever video game titled, "Kiss My Feet," which featured Mindee and Kaycee. The game would be for the PS4. If only...

This entire month was pretty Mindee-centric overall. With Wrestlemania happening in April, as well as Easter, she had two sets published to the site. We also met up and kept the Monthly Mindee Challenge alive for the fourth consecutive month.

Two sets of mother/daughter combos for Mother's Day in 2019!

May
In May it was more Mindee. For the second year in a row, a Mother's Day themed set featuring Mindee with her mom, Shelby, made its way onto Soles of Silk. In 2019, however, they were joined by Dolly, who is Shelby's mom, and thus, Mindee's grand-mom. People were stunned when I previewed this set on the site's Instagram and here on the blog when I shot it at the end of 2018. I waited for Mother's Day to finally publish it with it featuring two sets of moms.

That wasn't Mindee's only team up either. The Kiss My Feet set, my overall favorite set of 2019, was added to the site on May 29. I've already stated just how much I loved that set in this blog and in several other 15 Year Celebration blogs at the end of 2019. It was just that amazing!

Mindee and I went five for five with our monthly challenge, getting in an orange crushing set. Talk about some orange juice I would have gladly drank with the pulp!

Finally published this amazing team up with Kaycee and Reagan in June 2019.

June
Way back in 2006 I shot a set with Mindee and her cousin, Mariah. Along the way I somehow lost that entire set on an old computer. It's the only set that I've ever shot that I completely lost. Going through some old backups, however, I located two sample shots from that very set. I had watermarked them and all, so they weren't even the high resolution versions. Nevertheless, I decided to publish them to the site in early June.

Jasey Rae and I got together to shoot our first new sets of the year. Boy, did we ever get things underway too! She agreed to shoot a remake of Nikki's 2010 Playground Bubbles set and what resulted was one of my favorite sets of the year, placing third. I ranked it as my second favorite of all the remakes. It even found its way onto the blog, "15 Year Celebration - My 15 All-Time Favorite Sets (2004-19)," placing 12th. So yeah, I really liked this one!

Mindee and I shot for our final time of the year in June, which meant we ended the streak at six months. She did so by shooting with Kaycee again, but that wasn't all. Reagan was also present, making this a three model set, shot early one morning before we all went out to an amusement park to ride some roller coasters.

As for Kaycee and Reagan, another set featuring these two great friends capped off the month on the site. I had been sitting on the set above for a few years. In it, the two of them ate some fruity snowballs after pulling off some knee high socks. For the life of me, I can't see how I sat on this for so long. Look how cute their soles are up there. Might have to make that my computer's wallpaper.

Look at those soles... Look at those plump toes... Jasey Rae killed it in this set.

July
Speaking of wallpaper, this photo from Jasey Rae's bubble blowing set had spent weeks on my desktop as wallpaper before I finally published it in July. I have already expressed how much I loved this set and I wasn't the only one. Her fans made sure to let me know how much they enjoyed it. As for shooting with Jasey, we made sure to get in some more sets in July as well. She shot following a shoot I did with Audrey and Bria.

I hadn't shot Audrey since her debut back in April 2018. We were long overdue and I was happy to be having her back. This time around, however, she brought a different sister along than she did that first time. This one, named Bria, wanted to shoot as well. I got in two sets with them together, one of which you will see when we get to October, down below.

Both Mindee's remake and Lauryn's remaster was published in January.

August
Up until August 2019, only two of the site's models had ever joined the 2K Club (2,000 photos). Cierra accomplished the feat on December 28, 2011. Mindee, the site's overall most photographed model, joined her on January 8, 2014. It took five more years for anyone else to make their way into this elusive club. Then, in consecutive weeks, two more models became members of the 2K Club. Charlee notched her 2,000th published photo on August 7, 2019 and then on August 14, 2019, Alice did the same.

For the third time in three months, Jasey Rae and I found some time to go take some more photos. Why stop a good thing? Her and her plump toes were on a roll and you know I cherish any chance I get to have those pudgy piggies in front of me.

How amazing does Alexa's feet look wrapped in black pantyhose?

September
Not much happened in September. I tried really hard to make some arrangement with Leah to shoot a remake I was really wanting to do for the year 2014. Time just kept slipping away, however, and it ultimately never happened.

With October's updates planned out far in advance, this month pretty much saw me publish some content I had been sitting on. Sets of Mindee, Alexa (above), Jasey Rae, and Princess Nikki made their way onto the site before it was time for some cereal.

The final set of Cereal Killer Month featured two chocolate loving sisters in Audrey and Bria.

October
For a couple of years I had been planning out a little series of sets that all involved models stepping in cereal. I began shooting the sets, not really knowing how I was going to go about getting them all onto the site. Then it hit me! Cereal Killers Month. An entire month dedicated to models killing some cereal under their feet. October made perfect sense and the plans were underway. But there was a problem.

I needed five sets with there being five weeks of updates going online in October of 2019. I had six sets. I wasn't about to hold one back. So what did I do? I went and shot four more so there would be 10 sets. I'd publish two a week. Problem solved!

A total of 10 sets with 11 different models and 11 different cereals made their way onto the site. Those models included: Audrey & Bria (above), Melani, Mindee, Princess Nikki, Mia Kay, Abby, Jasey Rae, Maya, Charlee, and Kaycee.

Charlee's remake of Alice's Gummi Dicks set. Fitting since both joined the 2K Club in 2019.

November
Still holding out hope during all of October that I'd be able to shoot that 2014 remake, I was up against the clock. I ended up using a set that I had done with Esmerelda on some train tracks as a remake of Amelia's 2014 Train Tunnel set. I featured that set as an honorable mention that year, but I was running out of time. I still had to get five remakes published to the site before the end of the year. I had little choice and made the call.

Once that set was published, other remakes that I had waiting and ready to go were then added to the site afterward. Alexa's Long Licorice remake of Cierra's 2015 original and Charlee's Gummi Dicks Size tease remake of Alice's 2016 original finished off the month's update schedule.

I named Alice's Roller Skates themed Wu's Feet Links feature set as my all-time favorite set.

December
With only 2017 and 2018 left for remakes still needing to be published, Jasey Rae took care of both of those in back-to-back weeks. On December 4, 2019, her Rainbow Socks remake of Leah's 2017 original was added to the site. On December 11, 2019, her remake of Mindee's infamous Eggplant Emoji Size Tease set from 2018 was published. Talk about a way to end the 15 remakes!

In December I spent a lot of time writing different blogs for the site. I did the customary, Star Models and Favorite Sets themed blogs that I do at the end of every year. With the anniversary year coming to a close, however, I also went all out with some blogs focusing on sets and models from the site's entire time online. I tackled subjects such as: My 15 All-Time Favorite Sets, My 15 Favorite Remakes, "The 15 Most Unique Sets," "The 15 Most Important Sets," and "The 15 Most Photographed Models."

Mindee picked this set as the one she wants published to enter her into the 7K Club.

Looking Ahead
With January 2020 now 20 days in, what can you expect to be covered in next year's Year in Review? Well, there are some big things slated to happen during the course of this year. Mindee will soon join the 7K Club. I'm planning on doing a couple of events where she'll be published every week during March and May, so you might see her join the 8K Club too.

Both Charlee and Alice, who joined the 2K Club in 2019, should pass Cierra in photo count in 2020. Both are also neck and neck with their photo counts, so who will do it first? They'll trail only Mindee after that happens.

Since I didn't get to shoot much new content in 2019, focusing on getting a lot of my unpublished sets onto the site, I'd like to get back into the swing of things by shooting some new content. I've already talked to a handful of models who can't wait to shoot again. Those models include: Mindee, Melani, Jasey Rae, Kaycee, Alice, Leah, Charlee, Kayleigh, Audrey, and Bria. I'm sure others will want to shoot as well, but those are the ones who I've been in contact with in recent weeks.

I hope you all enjoyed 2019 and what you're seeing so far in 2020. Bookmark this blog to stay up to date on anything and everything, Soles of Silk. And don't forget to follow the site's Twitter account (@SolesofSilk).
